After making a promise to her dying mother, Emma finds herself driving to Texas to find Aiden Sheffield. Why? She has no idea. Who is Aiden? She doesn’t know that either. But while Emma isn’t sure what to expect of Aiden, what she definitely DIDN’T expect was a twenty something MMA fighting ex-marine who works with rescue dogs. While affectionate with the dogs, Aiden is downright hostile to Emma to begin with, keeping firmly fixed behind his walls.
A brooding bad boy?? A brooding bad boy who loves dogs???? Pick me up off the floor because I am SWOONING.
Apart from having a brooding bad boy (who loves dogs – did I mention the dogs?) this book has a sassy-ass female lead. GodDAMN she owns Aiden so many times I’m surprised she doesn’t give him a complex. And she’s strong, too. Despite Aiden pushing her away, she never lets him. Not because she’s a Bella “I can’t live without him” Swan, but because she KNOWS how he feels about her. She knows he cares about her, and therefore she doesn’t let him push her away.
This book is emotional, but it’s also funny and heartwarming – and it has DOGS. And it is also one of my favourite reads of the year.
