The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin – Review

Rating – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

THAT ENDING THOUGH. All the way through this I was thinking “this is maybe, like, a 4 stars” but then the second half of the book was a fucking riot. My heart was pounding and I was sweating and I think my mam thought I was reading smut because I was bright red too.

There were quite a few science-y bits in this that, while I had no idea what the fuck was being discussed, I really appreciated it.

I could listen to people talk medical to me all day.

Ahem.

I loved Mara’s growth of a character. I loved how she accepted her darkness, didn’t necessarily like it, but acknowledged that it was there without throwing herself a pity party.

(I do appreciate a good pity party every now and then; they’re generally the only parties I ever go to.)

I loved that we saw more Jamie. I love the friendship between him and Mara (I also love that Daniel refers to him as “the Ebola kid”) and he’s so funny. I also loved that Daniel eventually learned the truth about Mara. There are so many YA books with abusive siblings, so it was SO refreshing to read about Mara and Daniel.

And Noah… we didn’t see a lot of Noah, but I love him deeply, and I can’t wait to read about him in The Becoming of Noah Shaw.
