(My actual rating is more of a 3.5 but I’m being kind and rounding it up)
So this is the first book by Laini Taylor that I’ve read (I know, I’m a fucking disgrace) and I literally can’t get over how beautiful her writing is. Like, there were times where I literally sighed at the description of a street.
However. While I loved the writing to bits, I didn’t really feel much for any of the characters. The real star of this show was Calixte, who was fucking fabulous, but didn’t really play a very big part at all. My affection for Lazlo sort of fizzled out past the halfway mark, and Sarai was…sweet. But that’s all I really felt for them.
I will DEFINITELY read another of Laini’s books though, and I’m bumping Daughter of Smoke and Bone up my tbr list.
