Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton – Review

Rating – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amani is my kinda gal. She doesn’t take shit off anyone.

Girls not taken seriously by men? Fuck it, just dress as a boy.

No money? No bother, just enter a dangerous gun shooting competition, dressed as a boy.

Arranged marriage? To her UNCLE? Fuck off. She ain’t staying for that.

So yeah, I liked Amani. She’s smart and witty and strong, but she’s not your typical self sacrificing sort of character. She leaves people behind in order to save herself, which I kinda liked (what does that say about me, hm?) because I feel like it’s realistic (I feel ridiculous talking about being realistic in a book about djinn and that but there you are).

Also, once she’s free from her home town, she drugs the person who helps her escape and takes the horse they shared. This girl is fucking RUTHLESS.

Ahem. So, aside from Amani? Yeah, I liked it. I liked Jin, our love interest, and their romance was sweet, and in no way outshone the story. I also loved the magical elements, but I’m not going to say too much on that because of spoilers.

My only main problem is that I couldn’t really get into the world and keep track of all the place names, but that’s probably just me.

I’m looking forward to continuing this series!
