Rating – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I literally cannot believe what I’ve just read. Like…wow. I can’t…Stephanie’s writing is a dream. A deliciously intense, creepy, heart-pumping dream. When I was reading the end, I was literally sweating (and I live in England, where it’s currently autumn, so my sweat was definitely NOT a result of the heat).

The mind games in this book…what the fuck. I’m not the brightest tool in the shed, and my mind was working ten to the dozen trying to keep up. I don’t usually read mystery novels; I like books that have added mystery, but I don’t like books centred around mystery, you know? But the mystery and the romance and the magic were all so perfectly balanced. This book is truly a treat to your imagination.

Under all the magic and the wonderful world building, Caraval is creepy. It has the sort of sinister innocent feel that is usually reserved for carnival tricks and mirrors and clowns. No character that you meet is as they seem; even the most friendly of unicycle-riding people have a dangerous edge.

And oh, the romantic tension…there’s so much push and pull between our love interests, it’s incredible. I ship it. I ship it so. Fucking. Much.

I literally can’t recommend this book enough, and I can’t wait to read more of Stephanie’s work.
