Rating – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (ALL THE STARS EVER)
You know a book is great when you finish it and immediately want to read it again. I just…wow. Everything about this book is just wow. The character growth, the plot, the humour and my god the twists and turns…it just blew me away.
There were never any times during this book where I was bored during a certain POV. I loved them all (okay, maybe I enjoyed Kaz’s the most but seriously, can you blame me?). The characters are so fleshed out. They’re diverse, in both race and sexuality, and I couldn’t love them more.
The ending of Crooked Kingdom is quite open, which some people will like and others won’t. I, personally, usually don’t like open endings, but I feel like it really works with this story and these characters. There was never going to be a totally happy, skipping into the sunset ending for them. I think instead of a happy ending, this book has a hopeful ending. And it’s so fucking bittersweet.
There’s also a sort of epilogue, in which Inej scares the shit out of Pekka Rollins. I may or may not have fist pumped.
I can’t write a review for this series without mentioning Kaz. Fuck me. As soon as he speaks I grin like a fucking idiot. I’m just in total awe of him. When everything pans out and you realise the full extent of his plans it’s just totally mind blowing. There were times where I just full on laughed because it’s so fucking brilliant. There were also times where I had to stop reading and just put my head in my hands. Leigh Bardugo has one of the best minds in YA fiction, and we’re truly blessed to have her here.
If you couldn’t tell, I’m a complete slut for this series. Everything about it was perfect, from the world building to the characters to the barest hint of romance. Nothing was overpowering, and everything was brilliant. Fucking brilliant.
